Ahead of the 30th UNFCCC Climate Conference (COP-30), to be held in Belém, Brazil from 11–21 November 2025, Bangladesh’s trade unions under the banner of the National Alliance for Just Transition Bangladesh (NAJTB) presented a 10-point charter of demands at a press conference in Dhaka.
The event, organized by BLF and BILS with support from Mondiaal FNV, aimed to amplify workers’ voices in global climate negotiations and strengthen their role in ensuring a Just Transition. The press conference was chaired by Anwar Hossain, Vice-Chairman of BILS, and moderated by Yasin Arafat of BLF, with participation from senior trade union leaders and civil society representatives.
Trade union leader Shakil Akhter Chowdhury presented the 10 key demands, emphasizing that climate justice is inseparable from workers’ rights and calling for a Just Transition that ensures job security, inclusion, and protection for vulnerable workers. Speakers highlighted that workers in sectors such as agriculture, garments, and tanneries are already facing severe climate impacts, yet remain largely excluded from policy-making.
Panelists urged the government, employers, and global leaders to move from commitments to implementation, ensure accountability for climate impacts, and place workers at the center of climate action. The speakers also called on the media to widely disseminate the demands so they reach national and international decision-makers ahead of COP-30.
