Mid-level management representatives from tannery factories in Savar participated in a Just Transition Capacity Building Training designed specifically for factory management, recognising their critical role in steering change at the workplace level.
This initiative reflects Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF)’s approach to Just Transition, which goes beyond worker empowerment alone. BLF is equally committed to strengthening the knowledge, capacity, and practical understanding of mid-level management, so that fair and inclusive transitions can take place through healthy and constructive industrial relations.
The training emphasised that a just transition is not only about environmental or technological change, it is about how change is managed, ensuring that productivity, compliance, and competitiveness advance without compromising workers’ rights or livelihoods.
The sessions explored how a fair transition means protecting workers’ rights while helping factories adapt to:
✔️ Climate and environmental responsibilities, ensuring environmental improvements are implemented without shifting risks or costs onto workers
✔️ Automation and technological transformation, managing change in ways that prevent job loss and promote decent work
✔️ Skills upgrading and workforce reskilling, strengthening industry readiness by preparing workers and supervisors for evolving roles
✔️ Responsible business practices and regulatory compliance, aligned with national labour law, international labour standards, and due-diligence expectations
✔️ Long-term industry sustainability, where economic growth, social dialogue, and worker wellbeing progress together
Through interactive discussions and group work, participants reflected on the role of mid-level management as key change agents bridging policy, production, and people—to ensure that no one is left behind as the tannery sector modernises.
