Just Transition Bangladesh

Capacity-building training with trade union leaders from the informal RMG sector of Keraniganj, focusing on Just Transition and workers’ rights

Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) organised the capacity-building training with trade union leaders from the informal RMG sector of Keraniganj, focusing on Just Transition and workers’ rights.

The session aimed to strengthen the capacity of union leaders to understand how different forms of transition climate, economic, automation and industrial can and must be shaped to protect workers’ rights, ensure social protection, and promote decent work, even in informal settings.

Through discussions and practical reflections, leaders explored:
– The link between climate vulnerability, displacement, and informality
– Gaps in labour law coverage and social protection for informal RMG workers
– The role of trade unions in advocating for a just, inclusive, and rights-based transition

A Just Transition is not only about changing systems—it’s about ensuring that workers are not left behind, especially those already living on the frontlines of climate change.

Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) is driving an ongoing, worker centered Just Transition initiative and campaign to ensure that economic, climate, and industrial transformations in Bangladesh do not deepen inequality but instead protect rights, livelihoods, and dignity.

National Alliance for Just Transition – Bangladesh has been working for a national Just Transition roadmap for an inclusive transition of all workers in Bangladesh.

Across both formal and informal sectors, BLF’s work recognizes a simple truth: Transitions are already happening—but workers are rarely prepared, protected, or heard.
